A brilliant day for Mark Cummins at Downes Crediton

MONDAY, February 27 saw seniors at Downes Crediton Golf Club play an individual stableford and winning, with a score of 40 points, was Laurie Taylor.

Laurie’s score was equalled by Paul Fricker (40 pts) but he took the win with a better back nine whilst Ian Pring followed in third place posting a three under par 39 points.

On Thursday, March 2, a beautiful but breezy day, Downes new Lady Captain, Shirley Stunell, scored a fine one under par 37 points to take victory in the Ladies Stableford.

Ying Wong (36 pts) followed a point back to take second place with Lyn Parry scoring 35 points to finish third.

On Saturday, March 4 a total of 105 Downes members played the March Medal and with the course in superb condition, there was some tremendous scoring.

Mark Cummins finished top of the pile scoring a wonderful eight under par nett 62 to finish two clear shots from his nearest challenger.

Cummins also took victory in Division Three with Todd Dove and Gary Abdoll finishing second and third respectively after both posted nett 64’s.

Division One was won by Jack Cross scoring a nett 66 with Dave Woostock, Martin Garnsey and Quinn Payne-Cook all posting nett 67’s to finish second, third and fourth.

Four players scored nett 66’s in Division Two and after being separated by back nines scores Robbie Hallam took the win with Nick Murch second, Jon Cornish third and Jerry Thornton fourth.

Downes men and ladies have enjoyed success in the first round of the “Daily Mail” Foursomes during the past week.

Firstly Fran Shrubsole and Lyn Parry beat Tiverton 4 and 3 in a home fixture whilst Martin Garnsey and Maurice Curtis enjoyed a fine one-up win away to East Devon Golf Club.
