Bowls season opened at Morchard Bishop

By Crediton Courier Newspaper in Bowls

A LOVELY afternoon blessed the start of the season for Morchard Bishop Bowling Club when members played the traditional spider where they all stand around the edges of the green to aim at the jack in the centre.

Club President Edwin Hutchings welcomed everyone before sending down the first wood.

The charity supported by the spider this year was CLIC Sargent, the cancer charity for children, young people and their families with care teams providing specialist support across the country.

Morchard Bishop Bowling Club was formed in 1983, so now in its 35th season and has had considerable success on the green with local, county and national honours, numbering county players among its members.

Proud of its facilities and achievements, the club welcomes new members. For those who have never played bowls before, the fee for the first year’s membership is a mere £10.

There is an umbrella competition on Tuesday mornings when people can go along from 9.45am to learn to play. Either just turn up or telephone Phil on 01363 877597 to know more.
