FOLLOWING their qualification at Bicton in February, Crediton’s Queen Elizabeth’s School Equestrian Team, comprising of Alice Turner, Evie Mildon and Fiona Weddon travelled to Bury Farm Equestrian Village in Buckinghamshire to represent Devon in the National Schools County Showjumping Championships with their ponies.
The team arrived on the Friday ready for the warm-up showjumping class in the afternoon and settled the ponies for the night in their stables.
On the Saturday the competition was held over two rounds with faults and time counting towards the final placings, the best three scores in each round counting.
With a team of three instead of the usual four, the team had no drop score so each round was very important.
With three super clears in the 70cm first round the QE team was in a strong position for the second round which was held in the Indoor International Arena.
The girls held their nerve and with some excellent riding were in third place following their round.
After a nail-biting wait for the end of the class, the QE team was thrilled to be retain third position, and an exciting podium presentation was held.
