THE Village Stores, Lapford, re-opened, much to the delight of local residents, last December.
Paul Morgan has transformed the stores into a well-used resource for the village, with an off-license, general groceries, confectionary, household items, newspapers and magazines and even ice creams for sale.
Local produce includes organic free-range eggs from Blackberry Gate and cakes and pasties from Chulmleigh Bakery.
Paul, who moved to Lapford with his wife Alison, previously ran a shop in Somerset.
The Village Stores is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (closed for lunch 1.30-2.30pm) and also open on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.

Three days for Lapford Revel
LAPFORD Revel will be held on July 10, 11 and 12, and will include something for everyone.
The Revel is aiming to bring back some of the meanings of a “close-knit” community, and to bring all ages together.
There will be a scarecrow competition, Lapford Primary School Fair, a tug-of-war competition and a display by Winkleigh Morris dancers.
Volunteers are needed to help with the event and further details can be found on the website: www.lapford.com .
Online sites offer aqua products and gifts for the home
LAPFORD is the home of two online businesses run by Richard Cale at the Yeo Vale Industrial Estate.
Aqua Essentials (www.aquaessentials.co.uk) is a specialist online shop which focuses on the planted aquarium.
Established since 2004, the business was first opened to try and corner the then niche market of the planted aquarium.
Four years down the line, Richard says it is not such a niche, and is slowly following the same sort of trend that the garden market did approximately 15 years ago.
Aqua Essentials stocks a wide range of products to cater for every level of the hobby from beginner to professional aquascapers.
Richard said that the range is now vast with C02 systems, glassware, fertilisers (liquid and powder), lighting, heating, fish food, filters, filter materials, substrates, gravels and sand, tanks and cabinets and fresh water shrimp (which Aqua Essentials breed themselves).
Many products are imported from around the world and some products are unique to Aqua Essentials.
Richard said that all orders that are placed before 1pm are despatched the same day and normally arrive with customers the next working day. He is also able to offer advice if required.
Juuka (www.juuka.co.uk) was established in 2007 and is also online but born out of a love of style for homeware accessories and gifts.
The range the business sells is diverse from beautiful glassware, bread boards, table and kitchen accessories, milk jugs, salt and pepper pots, teapots, cafetieres, wall clocks to loose teas.
Juuka has a wide range of gifts suitable for birthdays, anniversaries or if you just fancy giving someone a present to say thank you.
Either way, Juuka provides some of the most contemporary and styled products which have both great function and feel.
Richard says that with the same business ethic as Aqua Essentials, the same delivery and customer service levels apply - emails are also responded to within the hour and advice is available throughout the year. Visit the websites for further details.
