Folk Lore weather

MARCH came in like a lion and went out like a lamb, the oak is out way ahead of the ash, signs for a hot summer, says local weather lore man, Tim Stone.
Tim’s life is observing what goes on around him while he works as a gardener. He says we are in for the best summer since 1976, he warned the end of March could be nasty, and it was, except for the final day or two. “We have beautiful yellow colours this spring, very heavy blooms on primroses, polyanthus, even forsythia. Heavy yellow colours mean more strong winds and nice warm summer breezes.
“Good news for farmers who should get all their work done on time outside. There shouldn’t be any moans about this summer,” says Tim.
He adds that the weather changes every 100 years or so and we will soon see bad winters again. He warns April will become wet, bringing winter back into spring.
Tim cycles everywhere and another of his observations is vehicles overtaking badly. “So many can’t wait to overtake me on my push bike. Horses and cyclists were on the road before cars, and I have seen one car overtake six others and one big lorry on the Bickleigh-Crediton road,” he added.
