In the class for six to nine year-olds, the youngest class, seven-year-old Matthew Treen, from Crediton, was disappointed when the chain broke on his 50cc motorbike.

In the class for nine to 11-year-olds, Brendon Cooper from North Tawton, riding his 65cc bike won his second race and was second overall.
Also in that class, nine-year-old Jack Banbury, also a Hayward’s pupil, and whose dad supplies the track which is raced on, finished 10th overall after borrowing Matthew Treen’s bike when his own broke down.
In the 11-13 year-olds class, QECC pupil Daniel Yelland, from Cheriton Fitzpaine, riding an 85cc small wheel bike, finished 19th overall.
His brother, Luke, riding in the next class up, the 85cc big wheel machines for 13-15 year-olds, had a good day finishing 10th overall. Another local rider, Terry Short (19), from Bow, who has recently joined the Army, rode in the AMX class for riders over 17, and finished 12th overall.

JAMES Buckingham the rider for Quay Garage Racing, sponsored by North Tawton firm Gregory Distribution, had a disasterous start to the second round of the British Super Bikes Championship, qualifying last on the grid at Thruxton on Sunday April 20.
James said’ “I am not getting on with the circuit or the bike, I have only myself to blame.”
Yet despite the bad start James rode well and finished 24th in the first race of 32 riders.
The second race was cut short after a dramatic accident which saw two riders Tom Sykes and Karl Harris collide after Sykes touched Leon Haslam’s rear tyre. Harris was hit in the face and chest by Sykes’s flying bike. Fortunately the injuries were minor.
The race was re-started with 15 laps to go, James was positioned 20th out of the remaining 30 riders and held his position for the rest of the race, averaging 107.6 miles per hour over the 2.35 mile track. His best lap time was 1.18.63.
This good finish has gained James and the team 11 points in the Daily Star Cup, a competition for privateer teams within the BSB championships; the points sees them in 4th place after one race.
The next round is the re-scheduled meeting from Brands Hatch which takes place on Sunday May 11.
