FORMER Exeter Chiefs prop, Wayne Reed, is returning to Crediton Rugby Club next season as a player coach.
He will be joined by fellow former Exeter and Launceston star player, Richard John.
The pair will form part of a new coaching team looking to help Crediton return to former glories.
Wayne has spent the last few seasons with the Cornish All Blacks, after a career that has also seen him play for Plymouth Albion and Barnstaple.
He has also helped Devon win the County Championship and represented England Counties and the Barbarians.
Richard John, who made 174 league appearances for the Chiefs, returned to Crediton for a season-and-a-half before joining the All Blacks in 2005.
A shoulder injury sustained playing for Devon prevented appearance this season, but he is now pleased to return to his hometown club.
The duo join backs coach, Charlie Guppy and Richard Daw on the coaching team.
Wayne said he was looking forward to playing and coaching at Crediton.
“It will be good to work with a new group of coaches, all with lots of experience, and also to provide a very talented group of players with guidance and to help them to improve and play at as high a level as possible.
“Crediton has a great track record for producing quality players and, with the players we have and the junior players coming through the ranks, I hope we can continue to do so.
“I also want Crediton to be a very welcoming club so that every team we play against recognises that we have got something special on and off the pitch.
“People seem to have forgotten the main reason we play rugby is for enjoyment.
“That is something I have always tried to maintain in my attitude to playing and also hopefully in my coaching as well.
“I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all the people that have helped me in my rugby career.
“I don’t see this move as an easy option, I know it will be difficult at times, but I hope very rewarding for all involved.
Crediton RFC will also see John Adams make a playing comeback next season after a year on the colts coaching panel.

OVERNIGHT rain meant a soft pitch, but again we were lucky with the game being played in dry conditions.
The home team showed how well they are now playing as a unit and they proved too strong for a very enthusiastic Teignmouth side, many of whom were experiencing their first year of junior rugby.
Teignmouth did well in both the scrum and line outs, where honours were pretty much even and scored a very good try early in the match.
It was another week where the big Crediton forwards dominated proceedings and caused Teignmouth problems throughout the game.
Whilst the set play was even, it was in open play that they ran riot and it was they who scored most of the team’s 10 tries.
Alex Rodd, Michael Bettoney, Will Goodman and Jamie Mckenzie all ran well with ball in hand. When one was stopped, the ball was offloaded and a team-mate was on hand to continue the assault on the away team’s line.
As well as the forwards Dan John and Ollie Down had good games on the wing and at centre whilst Matt Rendell also looked very comfortable in the unaccustomed role of fly half.
Tries: Alex Rodd (3), Will Goodman (3), Matt Rendell (2) Michael Bettoney and Matt Twomey.
Conversions: Matt Twomey (5) Sam Ward (2) and Jamie Mckenzie (3)

Devonport Services 5
CREDITON put up a brave fight against the County Cup finalists, but ended up narrowly defeated. They soaked up pressure for much of the first half, in which time Services number eight was able to pick up loose ball following a ruck to touchdown for 5-0.
In the second half, Credy had far more of the game. Services attacks usually ended with a kick; each time these were dealt with well by Luke Somerwill at full-back.
Crediton had few chances to score, but Ben Wonnacott was unlucky on one occasion. Amongst the forwards, Ben Phillips fought like a tiger and Callum Allen and Aiden Shearer worried Devonport with their strength.
The game is a marker for the progress Crediton Under 14’s have made this season, when they can put out a side with key players missing through injury and give a team of Devonport’s quality a tight contest.
Next season, Crediton hope to push on to be one of Devon’s top four sides in their age group.

Exeter Saracens 15
Crediton, missing two key players, put up a great fight against Exeter Saracens, going down 15-8.
Saracens took an early lead, capitalising on a kicked clearance but Crediton responded when Neil Hookway ran directly at the Saracens line and found a gap to level at 5-5.
Crediton were soon ahead, Matt Hurrell kicking a penalty to give Credy an 8-5 half-time lead.
Outstanding performances from Simon Rendell and Greg Bearder spurred on Crediton, but it was Saracens who had the upper hand, driving over for a try under the posts and then kicking a penalty for a narrow 15-8 win.
