LADIES from all over Devon attended the President’s Day at Crediton Bowling Club on Tuesday, August 3, hosted by Bowls Devon Ladies President, Christine Marshall.

The invitations were sent to all the Bowls Devon Ladies Presidential team, Devon officers, honorary members, past presidents, Crediton lady bowlers, and other selected bowlers from Devon, with about 70 people attending.

The event, which took place in brilliant sunshine, was opened by the Mayor of Crediton, Liz Brookes-Hocking. She said: “As a Madam Mayor I am delighted to be asked to open this event with all these ladies - girl power!”

The ladies enjoyed a variety of events during the afternoon which included some bowling, target practice with bowls, a quiz based on Christine’s experiences and a raffle to raise funds for Hospiscare.

This was topped off with food late afternoon, which included a hog roast with barbecued beef and jerk chicken. Christine made a selection of salads herself along with a choice of puddings. This was all washed down with Prosecco and/or orange juice.

A celebration cake was made by Gill Gunn from Morchard Bishop and was decorated by Meg Ellis of Crediton.

Vicky Hingston, Bowls Devon Ladies administrator, who was at the event, said: “It’s been a difficult year for Christine, our President, but she has coped incredibly well under extreme conditions.”

Senior Vice President, Aileen Rowden and Junior Vice President, Sandra Andrews also attended the event.

Christine’s granddaughters helped out, one travelling all the way from Qatar to be at the event, which raised £300 for Hospiscare Exeter.
